This story was utterly convoluted in so many ways, I found it hard to believe anything but the hot sex. I was on the fence about it because I didn't think Andrew deserved his own story. There was nothing remotely appealing about him in 'Owner of His Heart' but ok I was looking to look past it. Well, I hoped the heroine would be someone new and exciting and they would have their own amazing story where we really get to see more of Andrew and learn about her and connect with them. WRONG!**SPOILER** 90% of the story is him thinking, wanting, and coveting Layla (the heroine in 'Owner of His Heart') so if you haven't read that book then this one won't make much sense. Then as you wonder why this new heroine is "Layla" she ends up being the actual Layla's twin. SERIOUSLY??? Roxxy the actual heroine's name is a mega superstar but her story is plain ole stupid. In this day and age, what are the chances that no-one knows what a mega superstar's actual face would look like - she's famous and wealthy but she's able to move along the story as someone else because no one recognizes her. WHAT???I don't think the author put much into this story at all. The majority of the story is the big lie between Layla/Roxxy and Andrew. The ongoing misunderstandings and omissions got old real quick. There are so many parts of the story that are so ridiculous it made me angry and I just kept thinking Theodora dropped the ball on this story. If only the heroine was someone believable...heck i didn't even like her all that much because she's weak. Her mother is clearly insane and does some unforgivable stuff and yet Roxxy remains a child in the eyes of the reader.Andrew really had no depth. When I compare his story to the awesomeness of Nathan's story, Andrew got the shaft. There wasn't much character development with him because he's all caught up in 'Layla' from jump. Roxxy never even asks when he finally learns the truth if he really wanted her for who and what she is not because she's been Layla for the majority of the story.I'm very disappointed and I hope Theodora gets her groove back for the next story. I mean after primo alpha males like Fenris, Alexei, and Nathan from the first three books, Andrew is nowhere in their league.
Part two...Andrew fell in love with Layla in college but she ended up falling for his identical twin Nathan. Layla and Nathan marry and Andrew moves to Montana. "Layla" shows up in Montana without Nathan and she an Andrew begin to have a hot and torrid relationship. Andrew who is supposed to be the good brother decides that he is not stepping aside for Nathan that Layla is his destiny. Problem "Layla" is different from girl he knew and more passionate with him then she has ever been. Spoiler not Layla . The whole story is ridiculous and each character has few redeeming qualities. Might be good story for others not me.
I'm so sorry to say that this really is the first Theodora Taylor novel I can do without. I like to form my own opinion so just like Twilight and 50 Shades, I read this one myself to know how bad it was. It's as if a completely different author penned this one; and there are so many plot holes it's ridiculous. I don't know if she was on a deadline or what but this is not what I've come to expect from Ms. Taylor.I honestly didn't even bother reading the last twenty pages it was so contrived and predictable. I really wanted to root for Andrew, but I just couldn't after he became a watered down version of his brother Nathan in his need to claim Layla; and Roxxy could have been such a rich character but besides her trauma story she was lacking as anything but a "Layla" vessel for Andrew. Overall, the character development was just not there, and the brief cameo of the actual Nathan and Layla didn't feel like the same people we left at the end of "The Owner of His Heart".Seriously, just skip it.
So, I think my hesitancy in reading this and the previous book was because of the 2 brothers, 1 girl thing. Had to be creepy and just a little gross, right? Wrong! And the twist with this one, while a little unusual, was an excellent way to provide a HEA for Andrew. I enjoyed this one from start to finish. I love it when I have no idea who the bad guy is until they reveal themselves. Never saw this one coming!Theodora Taylor can do no wrong, I promise!
I don't know where to begin. Roxxy is a star running from trouble and in disguise. She goes to Andrew's ranch to get away from her rock star life and drama. Roxxy is the daughter of a psychotic parent and unknown to her she has a twin, Layla Sinclair. Yes, Andrew's brother Nathan Sinclair's wife. The same Layla that Andrew was in love with. Even though Roxxy is a super star Layla doesn't know who she is her twin. Only because Roxxy always wears outrageous outfits to hide her features. Really?Anyway Roxxy realizes the truth but no one believes her and everyone thinks she's crazy, just like this story.Moving ahead, Roxxy arrives at Andrew's ranch and he thinks she's Layla. He wants her even though he thinks she's his brother's wife. They sleep together. Basically he knows he's sleeping with his brother's wife. Huh? That's just crazy, nasty, and oh so wrong.Roxxy's problems follow her at the ranch. To explain that would take me a while. Read it at your own risk. It's just more mess.Anyway the realize Roxxy and Layla are two different people.Pros: Grammar isn't bad. The author usually write great stories so maybe the next one will be that.Cons: Story line. Sleeping with your brother's wife. Unbelievable story. Outrageous characters. Too many more to name.
I love how all the stories of the 50 Loving States collide. I have yet toread Layla's story but I can't wait then on to the Viking storyline. I have read most of the books out of order but each is amazing. I'm glad Andrew got his happy ending. Sounded like the last book left him with serious heartache. I kind of wish Roxxy's mother had survived long enough to give both girls more closure then go to prison for her crimes. Overall the story was great and I loved the chemistry.
