Okay, so I have to confess right up front that I'm a Kim Diehl fan and have been clear back to when her first appliqued quilt pattern was printed in a quilt magazine. (In fact, I still have that pattern and it's still on my bucket list!)This book includes a very nice selection of small quilts. According to the book's introduction, "...these little quilts are some of my very favorites from the early Simple Whatnots collections. To keep things fresh, I've also included a handful of new projects...) I take that to mean that some of the patterns are previously published quilts that were part of the Whatnots where you got several mini quilt patterns along with Kim's fabrics. I never took part of that because I felt it was too expensive. As a result, I don't know which patterns are older or newer. When you look at the book's description on Amazon and look at the provided pictures, you will see all of the projects provided in the book.The book is well written with good instructions and the pictures are clear and relevant. The applique shapes for the projects are printed at the end of each project. As a result, you will need a strong light box (or light source) so that you can trace the shapes because on the back of the page is a color picture of the next project.All of the projects are small. The largest is 28.5 inches square.Kim seems to make even the simplest quilt cute. For example, the Mini Orange Peel project is 14.5 inches square and the orange peel shapes are only .75 inches long (without seam allowance)! To me, there's nothing special about an orange peel quilt but Kim stitches French knots around each peel in the same color as the fabric and voila!, the finished project looks amazing.There are two wool applique projects, one with pennies and one with hexagons. (I love working with wool in part because of the physical and visual texture but also because wool doesn't unravel so everything is raw-edge applique.)If I had the opportunity for a do-over about buying the book, would I buy it? Yes indeed! The book is usable for any skill level and the project could even be completed by hand if you wanted to go that way.

Oh, my gosh--Such cute little quilts!! I love the vintage look of the fabrics and blocks chosen for the quilts. Some of my favorites include Plain Folk (the pinwheels just pop), True Blue, Bountiful (I love it), Anthem (I love the way the strips form the border, edged with cornerstones), and Barn Stars. But my favorite of all is Scarlet Stars. The two-color design really stands out. Using just three red fabrics and one background lighter fabric makes for great contrast and keeps it simple. I wish I had more wall space to hang small quilts, because there are many I will want to make. There are always tables to top, though. The piecing illustrations and directions are very clear and easy to follow. I'm so glad I bought this book of little quilts!

Anything by Kim Diehl is wonderful. I like her patterns and her choice of color is just beautiful. I recently bought another of her books and have already found several I want to make and have cut one out from "Simple Whatnots". She is the best. I have given up magazine subscriptions so I can afford to buy her books.

I love Kim Diehl and have made several of her quilt patterns. this is another great book from her with lots of projects and very good color photos.Directions are clear and easy to follow.

I'm just starting to learn how to make small quilts. And maybe venture into some hand quilting along the way. This book is chock full of lovely little projects, all made beautiful by Kim Diehl's gorgeous reproduction fabrics. The instructions are clear, the photographs are amazing (and really appealing!), and there are lots of little marvels to choose from.

The reason I love this book is because Kim Diehl gives you an idea of what color fabric would work in your mini quilt. Her designs are so cute you can't stop at one mini. Hang them or use them as table toppers on end tables.

I liked that they were not modern and bright colors. What I didn’t care to much for is kit is my first quilt book on an e reader and that it is easier to use an actual book

I love Kim's books and have almost all of hers. This one features smaller quilts which are fun to do since they take less time and I also have a small home so I'm able to display them well. Of course the price is also better than I've found elsewhere and that is important since I'm retired and on a fixed income.

I liked this book very much; although the technical words and explanations were trying. I learned more about a stroke and a brain than I’d ever known. I believe that Suicide Survivors have a stroke of sorts. Our brains become chaotic just as a stroke victim’s brain. We also become different people. We have symptoms such as: forgetfulness, not being able to put a person with a name, reclusive, sleeping, and more. This book was of value to me.

Excellent story. Eloquently written. As a stroke survivor and author myself, I could identify with so many things. While most things have returned, my ability to create fiction hasn't yet and I miss writing so much. This story has inspired me to write my own memoir and publishing journey. Thanks Christine for being so candid and vulnerable!

I believe that this book is well-constructed and well-written, however my rating is based much more on the way the author spoke to me. I have read many volumes that focus on neuroplasticity, as well as a smattering of professional articles, that I was obliged to skim because of my limited knowledge of the brain. However, Christine Hyung-Oak Lee helped me to understand some things that have been going on in my own brain by her detailed account of her experience. I am fortunate to have not yet had a stroke, although I am of an age when some of my friends and college classmates have been through the experience, but I certainly have experienced traumatic events. In the aftermath [I would not say "recovery" ], I recognize and identify with many of the experiences described in the book. This has been a significant aid in my interpreting trauma and some elements of partial recovery.

Tell Me Everything You Don't Remember is a raw and gorgeously written memoir of a Korean-American woman who must reconstruct a new identity when faced with a sudden stroke. I really loved how she plays with repetition and sentence structure to echo her fragmented thoughts and mind. It's touching. It's lovely. It's real. And it's worth reading and rereading.

This book is the most riveting book I have read in a long time. Christine takes you through all her emotions ups and downs .You can see and feel her pain, her emotion ,her reality in losing her world as she knew it .Her new world finding her losses in the new .The respect she showed her ex- husband is great . I was pinned to her book. The real facts on stroke is informative. She is a very Exciting Writer.I look forward to reading her next book. Best of luck to you and your precious daughter.

I wanted to like this memoir because of the author’s circumstances (she suffered a stroke at a young age and struggled for years to recover memories and get her life back on track). Quite simply, there either wasn’t enough material to warrant a book or the author was unable to share it. The author repeated the same events and the same phrasing over and over, jumping back and forth in the chronology in the process. The book reads as if it’s a series of daily diary entries, with no discipline or editorial contribution. I admire her obvious effort, but the book didn’t hold my interest.

A beautifully written book about a young woman's stroke, the ways it changed her and her recovery. The author reveals the deficits in memory function she experienced even while others thought she was fully back to normal. I learned a lot about stroke and how the brain can compensate for the damage done to it.

I was thrilled by bits of artfully-crafted phrasing through that section, which then flourished in most of chapter five and made me feel I was on a journey through life that was discovering literary potential just as it might have evolved for the young lass as her life shifted toward education.Yet by the end of chapter five to the final pages, the clarion call was that of the prototypical picture of the opera singer in preparation for a performance: "Me, me, me; Me, Me, Me!; Me, Me, ME!!" There was sound and fury but too little substance and story to mold a truly interesting tale despite the litany of subject matter that was mentioned.Many readers will enjoy this exploration of soul by commentary. The author presents herself as an interesting character. I might have enjoyed the effort had there been more introspection and less outwardly-focused criticism. There were times when I was ready to recommend this work to a teenage relative in the United States, that she might appreciate another kind of life in another part of the world, presented by someone of intellect. Such desire was not there by the end of the book.

I knew nothing about Jil Ker Conway until I heard an old interview with her on NPR shortly after she died, but it was enough to intrigue me. This first memoir of hers - I believe there are three - takes us up to the point where she leaves Australia and the clutches of her controlling mother. For me the first half of the book, her time on a desolate sheep farm in the outback, is the most intriguing section. The lengthy opening description of the outback is quite unlike anything I have ever come across and opened my mind to her reoccurring theme that Australia's fascination with English Christian culture was ridiculously out of place: "It is hard to imagine a kookaburra feeding St. Jerome or accompanying St. Francis. They belong to a physical and spiritual landscape which is outside the imagination of the Christian West."

Jill Ker Conway’s autobiography, “The Road From Coorain”, is a beautifully written memoir. The flow of the narrative and the broad vocabulary used throughout the book are exquisite. Although the impact of her life story is sometimes slowed by her mother's wants and needs, these experiences helped shape Conway and, as such, are an integral part of her story.Detailing her life growing up in the Australian outback during the second third of the twentieth century, Conway is able to draw the reader into that era. The beauty of the landscape and the harsh reality of the elements, the economic cycles, and the psychological impact on both men and women of these influences are vividly described. The elitism and the class differences between landed individuals and those who managed or worked on the stations become evident as the Conway family’s fortunes roller coaster between wealth and economic hardship.Societal attitudes toward women’s roles and acceptable occupations could have discouraged Conway from ever progressing. However, Jill Ker Conway’s intellectual strength, coupled with her work ethic, propelled her beyond those roles accepted and available to women in the mid-twentieth century to becoming a university professor and eventually president of Smith College.Today’s young women may view much of “The Road From Coorain” as ancient history. Women who came of age in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s may remember or may have experienced situations similar to those Conway encountered. All will be inspired by and amazed at Jill Ker Conway’s life and accomplishments.

This book, The Road from Coorain, was a great fit for me as I too grew up on a sheep ranch and made a life off the ranch. The experience of growing up on the ranch affected the remainder of my life as growing up on a sheep station in Australia did the author. The isolation brought independence and inventiveness. The writing is descriptive and brings you to the scene--I could smell the odor of the lanolin at shearing time!

This is a wondrously honest, thoughtful and intelligent work. Read it. You will ask yourself questions that seem fated to be asked. You'll grow in thought and maturity.

When I finally got around to reading this book I really enjoyed it. I had assumed it would be an entertaining childhood story of life on a sheep station in Australia, but it was so much more. I should have known a woman of such achievement would have written an interesting, thought-provoking story. She not only shared her struggle as a woman in a male-dominated profession, but also a look inside the attitudes of the typical educated Australian in that era.This one is a keeper.

I love this book. It has tons of stuff in there that I've never even thought of doing. The instructions are clear enough, and the little illustrations are helpful. I just wish that the pictures at the beginning of the different sections were more clear. There's a picture of a number of skeins of yarn and the opposite page has a "key" to the opposing picture, telling you which yarn was made using what technique. It's a little confusing at times and I wish there were some more in depth pix. But other than that the info is great, and amazon has a great price! I'm not giving up my copy any time soon! =0)

A lot of good information, attractively presented. I learned about a few specialty yarn constructions and overall the book was easy to read.When I took it out of the envelope, I was a little disappointed by the size of the book. It's pretty thin. A lot was covered, but it didn't really seem like it was covered in depth. I was hoping to hear MORE about fibers, MORE about twist, etc.To be fair, my main reference up to this point has been the Alden Amos Book of Handspinning, and that's a tome, so that might have affected my perspective. Still, this book just seems a bit "broad brushstrokes" for me.

A fairly comprehensive, yet short book. A nice addition to my fiber arts library.

This covers the basics of creating a novelty or designer yarn and is helpful in creating your own yarns. I like that all the yarns are structurally sound and usable.

I have only been spinning for a short while, but I knew I wanted to explore beyond the basics, maybe get into making art yarns and the like...this book fits the bill perfectly, it assumes you know basic techniques and explains ways to move beyond....I am very pleased with this book!
