Good book in good condition

Wonderful, colorful, vintage ads from the classic age of railroads, back when ads were actually art. Any railfan would love this book.

A wonderful soft back book of posters designed for instant nostalgia. I rather liked its comprehensiveness, mainly featuring US railroads but nicely chapters devoted to Canadian and European posters. Another nice touch is the inclusion of ads, baggage labels and several black and white photos.Predictably the posters tend to feature the streamline diesels of the thirties and forties (certainly a lot easier for the illustrators) rather than the European style of picturing the destinations. The travelling experience was the selling point rather than getting somewhere quickly and this, by the late forties and fifties, was rather a lost cause as plane travel was slowly becoming commonplace. There is great 1958 photo of the General Motors Aerotrain on page fifty-four making a PR stop in San Diego, possibly the last true streamliner.Most of the posters shown have a graphic rather than literal style though there is a stunning 1940 Santa Fe brochure cover that has an E8 somewhere west of the Rockies done in a very photo realist style. The last chapter Rails for Victory covers the WW2 years when railroads lost no opportunity in telling everyone they were doing their bit. There are couple of beautiful Dean Cornwell paintings used as calendar art by the Pennsylvania RR in 1943 and 44.The European chapter has some excellent British posters issued before the railroads were taken over by the state in 1947. If these take your fancy have a look at Railway Posters 1923-1947: From the Collection of the National Railway Museum, York a gorgeous book of over two hundred posters and quite remarkable because of the range of artistic styles that were used just to push train travel.All Aboard is an easy-on-the-eye quick tour of rail posters. A more detailed look can be found in Travel by Train: The American Railroad Poster, 1870-1950 with plenty of super graphic material.***FOR AN INSIDE LOOK click 'customer images' under the cover.

This book covers railroad advertising from the early 1900s to the late 50s. All color art and a few B&W pictures showing the real trains that influenced the advertising. It shows examples of railroad advertising from posters, timetables, brochures and luggage tags as well as railroads in the US, Canada and Europe. There is a breif history introducing each chapter and the captions for each picture are descriptive and accurate. At the end of the book, there are a few pages explaining how to collect railroad art, which I found very informative. An easy read and very entertaining. An excellent coffee-table book.

As always, Chronicle Books beautiful graphic series has captured a wonderful look back at riding the rails. Johnson and O'Leary have compiled a romantic collection of railroad commercial art.

What a great little (size) book! Packed full of really good imagery and commentary, anyone interested in the subject will enjoy this gem

I cannot say enough good things about Peter Walsh, and his ability to change my thinking - seriously shifting my brain to realize I do not need all this STUFF. I feel free for the first in my life of the hold that things, mementos, clutter, had on me. I am mid-stream in my down-sizing, was never a hoarder, but even people with neat and tidy homes have too much stuff. When I cleaned out my front coat closet, for instance, I had 16 pair of gloves. Various materials, bought at different times, on trips when I had forgotten to pack them or we got a sudden cold snap. Now, after donating, 14 people will have gloves. I did the same with mufflers, hats, and coats. It feels good. In my wardrobe, I had so many duplicates: for instance FIVE black turtleneck sweaters, as just one example. My core wardrobe is much leaner now, looks fantastic, easy to pack and unpack and wash. Before I had so many clothes and way too many choices and I would get overwhelmed by what to take. I am an author and I travel around the globe - (I write a thriller series about a globe trotting archaeologist so my books are set everywhere). I needed easy choices, but still need to be professionally clothed. Peter has completely taught this old dog new tricks. I love his books.

I've only read the first few chapters so far, but I'm already impressed. This is the first book on this topic (that I've read) that actually is motivating me to push forward with my downsizing project. It addresses more than the obvious "all this stuff is overwhelming," and starts with finding out what is keeping me, or anyone, from moving forward more rapidly. I'm looking forward to finishing the book, and getting on with it!

DITTO to all the other 5-star reviews! This book is IT. Buy it, read it, get to letting so much of too much of your STUFF go! Really helps with the mental/emotional/psycholgical (and family dynamics aspects, when dealing with other's homes) too! Only wish I'd read it 2 years ago, before we had to clean out mother in law's house - we still have half a garage wortrh of things to sort through. But having read this book, I feel better prepared to do so more quickly and less painfully - and also to get ready for a planned downsizing/retirement move in 3-4 years. :)

I had been feeling depressed at the "stuff" all around me, I didn't know how to start. My mother living with me is wonderful, but it's hard to part with things that were hers, or she gave to me, or "were" still useful. This had made me purge my stuff and let me wait for a better time for other things that belong to her. My children are getting asked what they want that we have stored for them AND having them decide what they want that belongs to us. A garage sale with donations to follow is in our near future. Peter is amazing, I couldn't go through this without his wisdom and direction. Bless him for his help through this book!

Able to communicate to me what should be in my thinking, which is a big mess, like my surroundings, and closets, and bookcases, and under the bed, and in the attic, and all in my car, and every cotton picking place, etc., etc., etc., and communicates it so it makes sense to me....... Did you get all that?God, I need help. And Peter Walsh is going to finally help me Let it go!!!!Highly recommend if you are in need of taking back your space, your thinking, your life. I pre-ordered this book and received it on Feb. 14th, the day it first was available. I read it over the next few days, and learned how to handle going through a loved one's possessions after their death. My mother was put on hospice care at the beginning of the month and I knew the info in Peter's book would eventually be needed. Two days after I finished the book, on Feb. 22nd, my mom passed away! I found myself quoting from the book as my sisters and daughters and I went through Mom's apartment and decided what to keep and what to let go!An idea that we had turned out to be helpful too: after the memorial service, at my sister's house for the family get-together and dinner, she set up a "Grandma Shoppe" in the basement with the things we had kept, and had the whole family go downstairs and choose things they wanted for their own homes and as mementos, and things that had personal meaning for each one. It worked out very well, and everyone was happy.

When my parents died in 2014, we were sad and overwhelmed with how to go through their things, honor their wishes and be good stewards of their legacy. My sister and I said then, we wished Peter Walsh had a book to help us. Well, he didn't but he does now. This is a gentle message and provides opportunities to really think about what you value, about your behavior in the precarious path of estate settling and to examine our own belongings. I think it's is Peter's best book yet.

Difficult but good read. Difficult because it reminds us of our mortality and that we need to not make our stuff a burden to our families and friends. He is really kind in how to push people forward to face fears and anxiety about downsizing. He genuinely has a passion and heart to help people in transition with downsizing. Just passed today! I am the 4th person I know of to use this book to pass the exam. I also used the Jeff Solheim TCRN e-learning from MED-ED. I'm giving this 4 stars because most of the questions in it are harder than on the actual exam and designed to trip you up. That said, the content covers everything I saw on the test and then some. Definitely learned alot. I also bought the BCEN online practice test after taking TCAR. 133 correct out of the 150. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I passed my TCRN using this book. The content is pretty straight forward and I found that the exam did include many topics found in this book. My problem with this study guide however are in the practice questions. Many questions asked have no connection to the content covered. I found this to be especially true towards the end chapters (continuum of care, ethics, etc). Some of the answers and rationale were confusing and seemed conflicted as well. I did like that this book came with online access though, you can study on the go or on a computer.

Will take the TCRN exam May, so far I love the organization of this book!Wish me luck!

This book is rife with questions over material material that wasn't covered, EXTREMELY poor wording of questions, as well as a very piecemeal collection of random points without cohesion. I read the reviews before I purchased and arrogantly thought those other folks were just being negative. Nope. This book makes you feel like a failure. I'm going to review ATCN and TNCC. Screw this.

I read this book and STN's study guide and passed the tcrn on the first time.

I just passed the TCRN. I found this book to be inaccurate, frustrating, and out of touch with reality. I thought I was going to fail the exam because of this book. I also used the book by the TCAR people which I found to be much more helpful.

Multiple errors throughout the book. Does not give pertinent answers OR rationals for questions or answers. Don’t waste your time or money on this book. Use your closest hospital library and use an ATLS or TCAR manual. I stopped using this book.

It's ok... not as informative or detailed as I would have hoped.
