Purchased the (iOS 8) version for Kindle to use in getting up to speed with my new iPad Air (a huge upgrade from my old original iPad). Using Siri/Facetime/Video etc. - The Missing Manual offers great user tips as well as basic instructions. My new iPad is getting a workout. My husband's iPad 2 is being put through its paces as well - oh, the things he never knew.I'm aware I could scrounge around and find instructions on this stuff eventually (yes, I have the Apple users guide), but what a great shortcut for the learning curve. Easy to read and logically organized, it's a real jumpstart for iPad users!

This book weighs almost 2 lb & has 540 pages so you'll know your iPad. Retail price as stated on back is $24.99. The pages are white matte and slick. The font is a medium size which looks to be size 12.There is plenty to learn even if you think you know everything. It explains things like the 7 kinds of finger controls and changing the color balance of photos. Also panoramic shots, trimming videos, time lapse modes, panning, auto enhancing, cropping, adjusting colors, adjusting lighting of shots, all about included apps, deleting and rearranging, timers, stopwatch, explaining iCloud and iTunes, podcasts and hundreds of other subjects. It's a great book!

My biggest issue is the small print and nearly unreadable skinny font. The light black print is also an issue. Never in all my life have I seen any book written with this type of frilly font, especially for a tech manual. What purpose is making the book more portable by making it smaller, then using thicker paper causing the weight of the book ridiculous. I am considering returning it and getting the kindle version. I do better with book version for tech stuff and am so irritated. I will update later.

This is a comprehensive (and entertaining) training manual for anyone who buys an iPad Air 2 like I did. I didn't know anything about Apple products. This book had everything I needed to learn how to work with this tablet. My only complaint is that it was rather expensive for an e-book. I got the Kindle version so I could have it right on the Kindle app on the iPad Air 2 so that I could go back-and-forth as I read - implement things that I learned while reading. I have been working with it most of the day and have only covered 30% of the book. I highly recommend this book.

Review of iPad: The Missing Manual 7th Edition, byDavid PogueI must confess that I have become a huge fan of David Pogue's Missing Manual books, since I first discovered them about 4 years ago. Some of the MM's are written by other authors, but frankly Mr. Pogue's work is the gold standard of the brand, which is why I resisted purchasing the iPad MM until this year, when Mr. Pogue took over the task of writing it. I am happy to report, I have not been disappointed. If you are a non-technical person or iPad novice this book will provide a cheerful, easy-going introduction to the vast capabilities of this amazing tablet, in a jargon free, easy to follow format. Even experienced iPad users will find tips and tricks that are otherwise very difficult to obtain from web searches or Apple documentation. While experts could conceivably discover much of what is contained in this book, it would be a poor tradeoff as the time spent on web searches and verification would far exceed the time required to simply read this book.If you are a positive, forward looking sort, then you've heard enough. This is one of the best iPad books I've come across, almost everyone will find something to like.Enough said. However, if you are a critical, cynical sort, you'll want to know what's not to like. After all, nothing is perfect. The following is for you:It seems to me that Mr Pogue has taken on a huge number of authoring commitments in the last half of 2014. He has written, or is in the process of writing/updating 4 books that I know of: his iPhone Missing Manual, his OS X Missing Manual, this iPad Missing Manual, and Pogue's Basics. The previous versions of this iPad manual were written by a different author, and it seems that Mr. Pogue has chosen to adapt his iPhone MM to create this new iPad MM, rather than simply updating the previous version. That's a reasonable approach given the vast similarities between the phone and the tablet. However, I get the impression that in the rush to produce the massive amount of content he has committed to, some errors have crept into this particular book. The good news is, most of the errors are not serious and only the most inexperienced users will have trouble with them. Also the author is strongly committed to correcting any errors that are reported, and updating subsequent releases of his books (there is also on-line errata available). All technical books have errors, and I don't find those in even this first release too serious. It's still one of the best iPad manuals you can lay your hands on that is current with the latest software release (iOS 8). It may indeed be the best manual available, but I cannot say for sure as I have not read all of them, and do not intend to do so.Note that, if you have both an iPhone and an iPad, you may wish to save yourself some precious reading time and purchase just one (either the iPad or the iPhone Missing Manual) rather than both. Because the devices are so similar, the manuals have a lot of commonality with each other. Whatever you choose, definitely consider reading one of these excellent manuals by Mr. Pogue.Regards,Joe Mooney

This series, including the one for the iPad still offers the best manuals on the subject, and this is true for the iPad. It is full of detailed information accessible in comprehensive form. Provides a wonderful overview of the issues that can work for a first time user as well as an expert, If offers a variety of suggested for getting more out of the iPad, Probably more detail that the average reader want but there are few questions that aren't answered. However, I find myself using a Google search for an initial inquiry and then turning to this manual if I can't find the needed information or want more detail. The price is very reasonable.

Using an IPad is not intuitive no matter what we hope. I got my IPad Air2 and was lost when it came to special features and even some basic ones. David Pogue writes in his usual clear, witty, and non-pompous, not geek-tech-speak approach. This is a must help book! I'm glad ....and RELIEVED...that I have it to consult which I do frequently during the day as I'm learning the mysteries of my IPad.Highly recommended.

Pogue writes manuals like no one else. First class. World class. If only I could read it. I opened the manual and smacked in the face text that was unreadable. Magnifying glasses and similar devices do not help. THEY LIGHT GRAY TYPE IS VERY HARD TO SEE!!!!!! Why? Why? This the second missing manual of Pogue's that i have purchased. Best in the universe or not; useless if the text cannot be read.Tell Mr. Pogue that he can contact me at: 602-692-7114 or allsettled @cox.net.
