Review

SLJ Review: Vibrant illustrations match the catchy verse, which begs to be part of a St. Patrick’s Day read-aloud. Also notable is that the four children in the story have skin color shades spanning from light to dark. The book concludes with instructions for parents and educators on building a leprechaun trap at home or at school, and a quick primer of leprechaun folklore. VERDICT A fun offering for March that will work well read aloud or independently.–Lindsay Jensen, Nashville Public Library

Bright colors, flowing rhymes, diverse characters, inspires children to be creative… this book has it all! It is one of my favorite St. Patrick’s Day books currently available. The simple plot focuses on a group of children with different skin tones who come together to trap a leprechaun. Despite their best efforts, the leprechaun escapes, but all is not lost. He leaves a tiny note that challenges the kids to try again next year. The back of the book includes a note to parents with tips on how to build a trap with your child. There is also a little background information on leprechauns to inform children of these mischievous creatures. My son could not wait to design his own leprechaun trap after reading this book. I give five stars to any book that makes children want to explore and create.

Darling delightful magical book!! I read it and it's so wonderful! I'm going to donate it to my local library to enhance their St Patrick's Day collection :)

With perfect rhymes that sound like they could be read with an Irish accent, this book is sure to entertain the little ones. The illustrations are whimsical and colorful, too. I loved the activity suggestion at the end where kids can create their own device to "trap a leprechaun."

Once again Fliess's clever rhyming makes for a great read. Fast-paced text and clever illustrations make this an enjoyable book not just at St. Patrick's Day, but any time of year. Filled with elves, tricks and mysteries, kids will really enjoy this book. Also, included at the end are loads of suggestions for building your own leprechaun trap.

Present for my niece - she loves it.

Said used, but looked pristine. Great book, kids loved it. Be prepared for them to want to make their own traps haha.

Wonderful and funny. Preschoolers will loves and get very creative with it. Can't wait to hear the ideas my class of 5 year olds will come up with.

My Grandgirls just giggled through it. Good choice
