Catch-22 was a dark and comedic novel that turned from "Oh no this'll be some funny war story" but as you get to the middle you realize how horrific the situations become, and you start pitying the characters and hating some, and later learn they die horribly, some suicide some being mutilated by plane engines or drowning or being thrown from windows. You start feeling panic and anger for people who you know are innocent and are telling the truth, yet their witnesses lie and plunges him into a word of hate and injustice, and scenes where you cry out of pity, where you know that guy didn't deserve to die, yet still did... oh it was still funny at some parts. But this novel is definitely not for the younger audience out there. It contains a significant amount of prostitution and some rape, with lots and LOTS of graphic detail in both ways (but most detail during bloody scenes, not much sexual details).Anyways, this novel is a classic and will forever stay in my heart as one of the most influential stories I have ever read.

That was fifty years ago. I was ten or eleven, Catch 22 was a year old or maybe two. My brother, in college, recommended this book. I liked it so much I read it beginning on New Year every year until I went to college. I just reread it for the first time in forty some years. It’s still brilliant. It’s still startlingly funny and it still hurts down deep.It rose above the realistic novels written immediately after the Second World War. It rose above Mailer and Jones and Shaw. When asked why he’d never written another book like Catch 22, Heller’s answer was “Who has?” Of course he was right. A couple of the great wave of novels that followed the Second World War stand shoulder to shoulder with the catch; Slaughter House Five and Gunter Grass’s Dog Years come to my mind. Lots of very good novels came out of the war, first novels from writers like Gore Vidal and Norman Mailer, Irwin Shaw and James Jones, Thomas Heggens, who won a Tony for the stage version of his novel, Mr. Roberts, James Gould Cozzens, who won a Pulitzer for Guard of Honor. None of those good books compare. Catch 22 entered the language. For a few years the blue paperback with the dancing soldier puppet was everywhere.Yossarian, the novel’s hero, spends the novel trying not to die in the war. A difficult job, since his colonel raises the number of missions he must fly from twenty-five to seventy, in an attempt to impress the Saturday Evening Post. Since I last read this I served in the army, where sooner or later everybody winds up working for Colonel Cathcart. I’m thinking that besides its anarchic appeal for youth, there were at that time millions of Veterans many of whom shared it’s cynicism about the organizations they worked for.If you’ve never read it, you’ve missed a great read. If you read it a long time ago It might be time to enjoy it again. I suspect you’ll still laugh whenever Heller tells you to. And like love at first sight it will probably still break your heart.

Someone I knew in college once asked us for a plot outline of this book. We laughed at him. It's literally -- not just figuratively, but literally -- indescribable. This is one of the genuinely remarkable novels of the 20th, or any, century.

This book takes place in Italy during World War II. The main character is a bombardier named Yossarian. His biggest issue is with his own army that keeps increasing the number of missions they have to fly before they can go home. (It started at 30 something and at the end of the book it was 80 missions). If Yossarian attempts to excuse himself from these missions, he will be in violation of a Catch-22. This rule is: A man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous missions, but if he makes a formal request to be removed from duty, he is proven sane and therefore ineligible to be relieved. The book deals with several complex issues in a funny way such as loss of faith, death and tyranny.I really thought I was going to hate this book. Mat had read it and felt that I would not find the humor in it.But I ended up enjoying it. It had humor that reminded me of the movie "Airplane". The dialogue went round and round and no where forward many times in this book, but that was the beauty of it. It was classic satire. I found myself smiling, if not giggling, several times during the book. (especially at the character Major Major Major Major). The absurdity of this novel has quite an appeal, and I am glad I had a chance to read it.It is silly. It is old fashioned. It is a war novel. But you simply must try it.

This is quite possibly my favorite book of all time. It is the perfect mix of humor and crude, harsh reality. It explains life in the military during WWII, but in a way that would make you think it's all fiction. Though much of the book is based on Heller's personal experience, his masterfully constructed characters (all 42 of them) would make you believe that they are all created by different people. Every chapter is a different story, each character a different personality, and all of them more hilarious than the one before. Every person should not only read this book, but own a copy, quote from it, and be the one person in the room that knows that M&M stands for not Mars and Murrie, but Milo Minderbinder.

If you don't realize that this book is meant to be hilarious, almost to the point of satire, then it will be very confusing to read. However, if you embrace the attitude, it becomes hilarious and entertaining. A must-read classic. This book stirs the imagination and continuously entertains. There were times I laughed out loud and attempted to tell friends about the funny thing I just read. Of course that usually ended with "you have to read it for yourself".Story aside, the 50th Anniversary Edition is a great purchase. It has the original story, plus some pretty interesting history and reactions to the story.

The Hidden and the Revealed; The Queen Esther Mosaics of Lilian Broca, by Lilian Broca

Review

For centuries, the most serious art in Italy was laboriously crafted in mosaics. It was taken for granted that the Bible s timeless stories deserved the timelessness of polished stones. It s an old idea, but Lilian Broca sees the point. She makes contemporary art with the merits of ancient art. --John T. Spike, author, art historian, art critic, and past director of the Florence Biennale International ExhibitionsWHAT'S HAPPENING NOW in the world of mosaics. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2012 The Hidden and the Revealed: The Queen Esther Mosaics of Lilian Broca was not what we expected. We absolutely expected beautiful photographs of the ten opulent and impressive mosaics that make up this body of work. Begun in 2002 and completed in 2009, the Queen Esther series has garnered a number of honors for Broca including a gold medal at the 2003 Florence Biennale and a spot in Mosaic Art NOW's 2011 Exhibition in Print. The story of Queen Esther is delicious Biblical thriller about a Hebrew beauty contest winner who conceals her religion, becomes a queen and, through the courageous use of her womanly wiles, saves her people from a massacre sanctioned by her husband. Broca's ten mosaics follow Esther from frightened teenager to mature and confident queen. Because we know her, we weren't surprised to find Broca very eloquent as she shares the personal bedrock that lies beneath her mosaics the affinity for the Byzantine aesthetic formed by a harsh childhood in Communist-ruled Bucharest, an accomplished artistic career spanning multiple mediums, and, most important, her unswerving commitment to turn a spotlight on the "societal issues involving women and their plight in historical times" through the use of symbolism and metaphor. In her book, Broca walks the reader through her process as an artist with excellent illustrations following the creation of each mosaic from initial sketch to completion. She spends just the right amount of time talking about the physical process of mosaic-making and even manages to make the process sound almost mystical. Broca clearly revels in the making of mosaics. Broca's narrative is especially rich for us when she speaks of her use of symbolism. Here, she discusses the element of wrought iron she employs throughout the series. This work establishes Mordechai as the other hero and as, in effect, her (Esther's) co-conspirator in the plan to counter Haman's evildoing. Here, the wrought iron motif which elsewhere symbolizes the oppression and segregation of women in an ancient patriarchal society takes on a different meaning, becoming part of the opulent palace gate, with the royal initial appearing in its center. And here, Broca points out how she uses the basic components of mosaic in creating a symbolic visual moment. In the right panel of the triptych, the image of the column melts down at the bottom, first becoming two dimensional and monochromatic, next a line drawing, and finally the line pixelating into small colored fragments that form a shapeless mound of tesserae. This visual degeneration symbolizes the defeat and destruction of the Persian empire soon after the reign of King Ahashvayrosh and Queen Esther. The falling pixels or tesserae also form Esther's name in Hebrew and Farsi. Yes, Broca's thoroughly satisfying portion of the book met and exceeded all our expectations for a good mosaic read. What we hadn't expected in The Hidden and the Revealed were the additional contributions made by feminist artist Judy Chicago, art historian Sheila Campbell and Rabbi Yosef Wosk that made this book an even richer, multi-faceted experience. In her foreword, Chicago discusses the traditional struggles of women within the confines of historically patriarchal religions. She also finds the mosaic connection between her homage to the --Mosaicartnow.blogspot.comBook reviewers sometimes like to hang on to their verdict, forcing the reader to wade through the reviewer s arcane knowledge and pompous opinions until, in the very last sentence, the opinion on the particular book is delivered. I ll spare my readers this book is a stunner! It encompasses all the elements of a wonderful art book: illuminating but accessible text for an intelligent layman, out-of-the-ordinary artistic content, and quality printing. The preface is by Judy Chicago, the internationally acclaimed artist (famous for her groundbreaking installation, The Dinner Party) and author. Ms Chicago notes that Broca has chosen the ancient technique of mosaics to create a modern-day visual midrash. This book has been seven years in the making and includes the full Scroll of Esther in Hebrew, accompanied by an English translation. The artist devotes a section of the book to explaining the technique of mosaics and presenting the reader with many of her preliminary sketches. The history of mosaics goes back some 4,000 years or more. The expansion of the Roman Empire took mosaics further afield. With the rise of the Byzantine Empire from the 5th century onwards, centered on Byzantium (now Istanbul, Turkey), the art form took on new characteristics. Roman mosaics were mostly used on floors, but the Byzantines specialized in covering walls and ceilings. Light was refracted by the glass and was caught in different ways. The high level of reproducing Broca s mosaics is a compliment to the Israeli publisher. It was Yeats, in his poem Sailing to Byzantium, who spoke of the gold mosaic of a wall, the physical reality of the luminous glass that becomes ethereal. Lilian Broca has infused the heroic story of Esther with artistic beauty and, through the medium of mosaics, with spirituality. Definitely recommended as a gift for oneself, others, or both. --Pnina Moed Kass, Esra Magazine

Lilian Broca's tour de force mosaics glitter beautifully in reproduction in this excellent overview of her work. Coffee table sized book.Thorough look at her work and design process. Tons and tons of gorgeous photos. A real gem of a book for anyone who is interested in Babylonia, Jewish women, contemporary women artists. One of the most extraordinary mosaic artists, ever!

The mosaics of Queen Esther is a beautifully photographed and written review of the mosaics of Lilian Broca, with a preface by Judy Chicago. It tells the story of Queen Esther, the Jewish woman, who hides her religion and enters the harem of the King of Persia, Ahasueras. It is executed in the style of the Bysentine mosaics. but imbued with spatial qualities which bring it into the modern age. The mosaics are monumental in size and theme. The book relates in Hebrew and Englsh the story of Esther, as well as, the story of the mosaic.

I saw this book at my friend W. Parker's home and recommended it to a friend who is writing a book about Queen Esther. After flipping through it, I knew I had to own it, too! It introduced me to an accomplished artist that I had not known about previously, and provided rich historical context about Queen Esther. The mosaics depicted in this book, as well as the other graphics are stunning!

A beautiful book by a renowned mosaic artist. Lilian Broca's works are widely copied illegally, on clothing, paintings, other mosaics. She has no recourse. I bought her book as a show of solidarity for a fellow artist.

this book has a bio of the artist, her reasons for making the work, preliminary sketches and close ups of the process. What's not to love!

This is a stunning book providing a detailed insight to the journey of the creation of the breathtaking mosaics of Queen Esther and the artist herself.

The Hidden and the Revealed; The Queen Esther Mosaics of Lilian BrocaHaving pre-ordered The Hidden and The Revealed as soon as amazon.com posted the cover, I can honestly say that this beautifully illustrated book is so much more than an art book. After viewing Lilian Broca's magnificent mosaic works and reading the unique story of the artist's background along with the methods she used in working with glass, the reader is treated to a fascinating analysis of a few major European Old Masters' oeuvres who also interpreted the story of Queen Esther. A real bonus in the last chapter is the actual Esther Scroll complete with foot notes and a moving poem, vividly conveyed in the voice of an old Queen Esther. The added notes are a scholarly treasure. Great as a gift and informative as well.

Three books that I received came with a torn cover and I am very disappointed that I paid a lot of money and books do not look new.

unfortunately some of these cozy mysteries think it is a good idea to kill off a key character, one that is loved or one that has the possibility of being such a loving part of the main character's life - as in this series.. This character was a chance for the main character to enjoy life. This is so opposite of the general 'good feeling' this books can portray. Sure a parent my have died or someone fairly close but not such a character as this. Take a lesson from Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, and some other classic writers who were able to incorporate drama into their plots without this.

If you like cozy mystery series where you get to know the main characters who appear in every book, this is an enjoyable series to read. The plots are intriguing enough to keep it interesting, but the books are short enough to finish in a few days. It is recommended that you read the series starting with the first book, although each of the books has a self-contained plot.

I love the Booktown series. It is so well-written and totally believable characters. I love that the characters are so well developed and so human. Each and everyone is noble and not so noble at the same time. It transports you to a place where you can just engulf yourself in Tricia's world. I love New England and every time I read this series,I feel like I'm there. This is a twist and turn must read.

I really like the relationships between some of the main characters and find myself rooting for them in there exciting endeavors. As I was reading each book I couldn't wait to pick up the next and got through all 8 in a very short time. The story could easily have ended after the 8th book and i was ready to begin another series.so I was pleasantly surprised when the kindle said there's another (#9) being released! I can't wait to start reading!

For anyone who loves cozy mysteries, this series is for you. Tricia is a good wholesome heroine, the supporting characters are believable and the plot will keep you guessing to the very end.

Tricia Miles, owner of Stoneham, New Hampshire's mystery bookstore, "Haven't Got a Clue" is settling into life on Stoneham, after three years, she has a great staff, a wonderful and consistent clientele and her store is doing better than many of the local bookstores in what has been dubbed "Booktown" after the Chamber of Commerce started the initiative to attract tourists and revive the town's economy.Tricia is also known as the town's "jinx" for her uncanny ability to sniff out or discover murders, and subsequently solve them for the local law enforcement. When a plane runs out of gas and crashes into the town's historic gazebo, killing the pilot and Tricia's best friend, Deborah during Stoneham's Founder's Day celebration, Tricia doesn't buy that it is an accident, and begins digging into clues. Along the way, she discovers how little she really knew Deborah. In the wake of her death, secrets about her marriage and her child start to surface, and there is much anger directed toward Deborah's remaining family, her mom and her son Davey, as well as theft and vandalism toward her store, The Happy Domestic. When Nigella Racita and Associates sweeps in to purchase The Happy Domestic from Deborah's husband, at above market value, Tricia starts to get really suspicious and starts stepping on toes when she reaches out to the pilot's widow and others in the community, asking pointed questions. Will Tricia go to far and put her life in danger? In the end, the pieces come together, with a bit of a surprise ended. In small towns, you will be amazed by who is connected to whom. This is a great series, and I can't wait for the next one!

Founder's Day in Stoneham and festivities in the village square. A small aircraft crashes into the gazebo killing the pilot and another person. Was this just an accident!?Tricia starts to nose around and investigate.I love this serie and this book has not only a good mystery but humor along with my favorite characters.

well-written book. Lorna Barrett is a favorite of mine so it's hard to be objective - but I do believe her books are of good reading quality and I enjoy every minute I spend in reading her. Good plot, great characters and a worthy purchase.

I love the recipes I have tried! and the book has helped me learn how to cook without regular flour/gluten -I have a few things, but it's just me, so I did not want to dock any stars.I do feel the recipes are TOO sweet! easily fixed by reducing by as much as half or more! and I do not feel Agave is a healthy sweetener. so I used maple syrup, honey or organic evap. cane juice crystalsI also feel good quality organic grass fed butter is healthier and much better tasting than grapeseed oil for many recipes. But like I said, this is all just me, so I still give the book 5 stars because the substitutions are easily made with great results.I realize many Americans still have a "taste" for the very sweet (and probably why we have such an epidemic of diabetes) I married a European who has taught me to make cakes etc. that are not nearly so sweet and now I have lost my taste for it (it's rather amazing how that worked). European cakes are just not as sweet as American cakes & desserts, for the most part. So I think either Elana has a sweet tooth, or she is appealing to the American market! but like I said, it was an easy fix to make the desserts more palatable for my family.Butter can also easily be substituted for the grapeseed oil in the recipes, I even added a bit of butter to the chocolate cake recipe, to give moisture when I used evap. cane crystals. to sweeten (only 1/2 C. was plenty sweet for us!) - and my family LOVES this cake, which could not be easier to make - for the marshmallow frosting, I used maple syrup and reduced it by 2/3 - it maybe did not hold it's shape quite as well, but I'm not complaining since it was my adjustment and no one complained at my house!little hint: I used cocoa to "dust" the baking pan for the choc. cake - almond flour would be great, but it's so PRICEY - so I was trying to conserveSo I give the book 5 stars in spite of all this, because I think it's not intended be a low sugar cook book, it is called "Gluten-Free" - and I feel it really helped me get over my fears of how to use almond flour - I have cooked so many years with wheat flour, I had no idea how this was all going to work with almond flour? but it's been a fun & delicious adventure! so I feel this book is an excellent starting place. The recipes are simple and pretty forgiving, so I think even beginners can easily follow them and if you are more experienced and want to make a few adjustments for preferences/tastes like I did - you can still have great results!

I am not gluten intolerant, but this is one of my top 5 favorite cook books for a reason. EVERY. SINGLE. RECIPE. IS. DELISH. And I mean, not in a "good for a gluten-free food" kinda way. Truly spectacular clean eating.Want to impress the ladies at a Sunday brunch? Whip up the savory tart crust in under 15 minutes and throw together their vegetable quiche to die for.Aren't much of a breakfast eater but know you have to eat a little something to keep your metabolism going? Slice a thin piece of the nut/seed museli bread recipe packed full of protein and you'll be satisfied til lunch time. I make a double batch and freeze the bread for months worth of breakfasts at a time. Winning!Almost all the recipes are built off the same building blocks so you aren't going to be hunting down esoteric ingredients once you get a basic pantry set for her style of cooking. Grapeseed oil, Almond flour, arrow root powder (all easily found these days at the grocery store or here on amazon)...that will get you started.I've now bought 5 copies and gifted them to friends and family after knocking their socks off with my potluck dishes. Do the same. Get this book. You will not regret it.

I'm giving this book 5 stars even though I have had some issues with it, because the author has created a great resource for alternative baking. Many people avoid starchy flours because of allergies, special diets, or a combination, and Elana has done a great job experimenting with the use of almond flour in a very wide range of baked goods. There is no other resource for almond flour baking that remotely approaches the breadth of this cookbook. You really can make everything from chocolate chip cookies to chocolate cake to pie dough with almond flour. I'm incredibly grateful to the author for trailblazing into this new frontier. The recipes do have various notable peculiarities (see below), and of course different readers, especially in the context of the specialized diets to whom almond flour baking will appeal (including scd, paleo, low carb, celiacs) will have different tastes, needs, and restrictions. However, I have found the recipes to be very adaptable where my tastes or needs diverged from the author's.Potential buyers should know that this book is not only geared towards grain-avoiding and celiac diets, but also aims for a 'healthy' approach to baking, in the name of which it largely avoids butter and refined sugars. In addition to the titular substitution of almond flour for wheat flour, there is a relatively single-minded substitution of grapeseed oil for butter/shortening and agave nectar for white sugar. While I don't have any general problems with agave or grapeseed oil, unlike some readers, I'm not satisfied with these ingredients in all cases. In particular, I generally prefer the flavor and mouthfeel of butter over grapeseed oil, and I find agave nectar imparts an unwelcome sticky, flaccid texture to baked goods like cookies and biscuits, especially over time (I like it just fine in cakes and muffins). Still, I've had fantastic luck substituting 'back' butter and sugar where i want them, although when agave is removed, one sometimes needs to add more recipe- appropriate liquid (e.g., milk or egg) to compensate. These recipes are highly adaptable, which makes the book that much more user-friendly.I'd say that this is also a baking book aimed more towards cooks than bakers. The recipes are pretty quick and dirty- dump and stir affairs. There aren't a lot of fiddly steps, using 7 different bowls to mix subrecipes, or explanations of techniques and experimentation a la cooks illustrated. I'm sure that aspect wins the book lots of fans among busy parents and those who don't enjoy the craft of cooking, but as someone more in the love-to-bake camp, I would have appreciated more attention to detail, use of various baking techniques that lead to a better texture in final products and experimentation with the kinds of fillips that separate the pedestrian recipe from the sublime. For example, in some of the cake and muffin recipes, I find the recipes substantially improve if one takes the time to beat sugar (or agave) and eggs to a ribbon, or beat egg whites separately and fold them in. I also wish the ingredients were given in weight (at least somewhere in the beginning)-- I had a number of failures until I realized the author packs her almond flour. Some of the baking times and such have also been off-- these kinds of details really matter for baking, and hard core bakers will be frustrated at the lack of precision. As I've said, even though this isn't the perfect cookbook for my particular needs, it is a wonderful starting place for my gluten free and grain free baking experiments. (There is also a savory chapter, but I haven't really used it.) Some particular favorites are the crackers (all fantastic), chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cherry cookies, and pecan shortbreads (all of which I strongly prefer with creamed butter and sugar, though.) Although the cookbook is pretty small, I've still only cooked a small portion of the recipes (the author's website provides a lot of additional inspiration as well). I'm looking forward to baking through more of the recipes, adapting and changing as I wish.

Review

Tom DeWeese writes with a flair and the purpose of 'Common Sense' in a time when we dearly need some. - C.J. Hadley, publisher, RANGE magazine One of America's best informed and most respected champions of free enterprise and principled government is Tom DeWeese. - Ron Arnold, author and executive vice president, Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise Tom DeWeese is a vital force in the battle for American liberty because he tells it like it is, holding back nothing as he cuts through the politically-correct smokescreen to get out the truth. - Jerome Corsi, Author From afar, I have long admired your courage and your immense talent for writing. You personally represent that which I admire above all else: the brave American patriot upon whom free people everywhere depend to save America from the Socialism that now threatens it and thereby the Free World. - Judi McLeod, Editor, CanadaFreePress.com Our country should always feel a great debt to people like Tom DeWeese and others, who literally make it their business to monitor what Washington is doing, where big government is taking us, and alerting us that "we the people" can still be in charge, if we're informed and active. Keep it up, Tom! - Pat Boone

DeWeese has outdone himself this time, an out-of-the-park home run. This is an easy read despite being an important book, well organized, well written, & well edited.. Sustainable recounts the recent historical movement of powerful utopians who sadly also have a Chicken-Little complex, as well as telling what is on their frightening drawing board. Should be required reading in every civics or government class but it won't be. Read it! Give it to your children, your grandchildren, your neighbors so that it may be stopped – or, if not, so that they will at least know what really happened. Henry Lamb & Dr. Coffman would be proud of Tom DeWeese's book. Sadly this modern globalist story has its roots in the old feudal class system, and it is still about a cabal of elitists bent on power only this one now is led by intellectuals & academics, administrators of trusts & charities, bureaucrats, & so-called diplomats, pooh-bahs whose published goals of control are obfuscated by a complicit media so as not to alarm those they see as useful idiots, managers, small holders, clerks, mechanics, soldiers, & serfs who eat too much, have too many babies, and live too long. Wake up! It is a small group; if you think you are inside their wealthy or anointed “in-crowd,” guess again.

Important information. This entire sustainability movement is all about control, elimination of property rights and national sovereignty, and based entirely on an invalidated assumption that the earth faces a climate crisis because a bunch of computer models programmed to demonstrate that carbon dioxide is the problem, even at levels that are currently low (albeit slowly rising) and triggering dangerous global temperature rise and climate change. As both a geologist and an environmental engineer with well over 40 years of work and research behind me, I know that CO2 levels have been much higher at several points in the geologic past (without any indications of tripping points or other adverse consequences), that the earth is in an interglacial period where temperatures will naturally rise before decreasing again, and that 95% of the earth's CO2 is tied up in the oceans, more of which comes out of solution as temperature of the water increases. Thus the entire premise of the media and IPCC assumptions on the source of this non-problem is faulty because temperature rises come well before CO2 increases occur. The political and economic agendas behind the sustainability movement are the real objectives for the Marxist originators and supporters pushing a totally false environmental crisis. We have an ethical and moral obligation to minimize adverse impacts on the earth we inhabit. But those pushing an agenda to deindustrialize and reduce energy consumption to levels last seen prior to the U.S. Civil War have an obligation to concern themselves with the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of others--and especially in underdeveloped and developing countries that will only be lifted out of poverty and ignorance through increased availability and abundance of fossil, hydro, and nuclear power. Solar and wind power is inefficient, intermittent, technically not dispatchable (not available on demand or economically stored to meet peak demands), and very destructive on the environment--huge footprint requiring massive land and habitat clearing to replicate the power output of a fossil fuel power plant.

This book certainly changed my view about what sustainable living really means. While sustainable living sounds like a good idea, it's all the extras that come along with it, like the unelected officials who make the rules to suit their agendas while stripping away our freedoms to gradually implement Agenda 21 and the One World Order. While the book is excellent - I would buy it again - the reason for only 4 stars is that there are more than a few grammatical and typographical errors that were distracting when I read it. However, the information is certainly top notch and was a real eye opener for me.

Tom's book explains how our government is giving up our resources and private property to the United Nations and their Agenda 2030/2050 plan. It spells our the acronyms used and how to determine if these NGO's are active in your community. These folks are against individual rights and all for the collective. This book explains it all in concise, to the point terms.

This book outlines the assault on America from the standpoint of the UN and their lackeys on the left. Its very detailed and documented and is eye-opening. One of the things that struck me was hearing the names of local initiatives and programs and then seeing their origins in this book. It's an important book if you care about the lefts insidious attacks and plans. I gave it four stars only because I thought, in the end, it offered few concrete solutions.

If you've ever had that feeling that something isn't right with our society and government this book is very telling with regards to the insidious NGO interlopers that abound and are responsible for the shape we are in today. Very revealing.

Everyone should read this book. Very good information!

Tom does a excellent job of exposing the corruption.

Overall this book is great! We have a kindergartener, and she loves this book. Many great examples of how/what the right choices are. The only odd part of the book is about keeping secrets: one of the captions has a little girl saying to her friend "my parents are getting a divorce, please don't tell anyone". Just seems a bit out of place with the rest of the book. We change the verbiage when we read this page, as divorce isn't a topic we feel we need to talk about with our preschool/school age children, especially about it being a "secret". The illustrations are great, lots of visual details and examples that my kids love. Other than the random "divorce" sentence, this book is great.

Overall I think it's an alright book and will be keeping it. The main issues I have are with the brief, comic-like parts of the book where characters show an example of what the author is explaining.- A girl mentions that a boy is her boyfriend which seems inappropriate for a book geared at children- A girl mentions that her parents are getting divorced, and wants it to be a secret. I'm on the fence about this one, because it could be a good lesson and is probably something that happens a lot, but seems a little intense.- In an example of how not to be a friend, someone calls someone else a Stupidosaurus, which you may not want introduced into your kids' vocabulary. It wasn't a particularly fun read, more informative, but surprisingly held my five year old's attention, and he seemed to take away some good info, so still giving it 4 stars.

This has been a great book for my 3 year old son. He started his first year of preschool this year and sharing, taking turns, and playing nicely has been bit of a problem for him! We sit down and read this book often to remind him "how to be a good friend"! I feel that he understands what's going on in the book and has seemed to pick up on good behaviors from this book also! They have pictures and examples on ways to be a "good" friend. We read each picture and then I ask him questions about the pictures and we discuss what's the right and wrong thing. It has also been helpful between him and his little brothers. All I need to do is remind him about this book and things seem to go a little smoother!

This book is not for everybody and not for any age.I was bit disappointed with negative reviews about this book who spoil it for older kids parents. This book is dealing with attitudes of older 5 6 and 7 years old and younger kids should NOTeven be exposed to that because they indeed make pick up some from those.Older kids however can really use this book to express their problems with friends, their problem with their friend making and find solutions. My son has problems with a friend who tells all his boy scout friends what to do all the time.He could not fix this and we could not fix this, but one day he has him over and showed himthe book and that other boy red the one page about BOSSESand he blushed. He saw himself in it. It gave very clear examples of a child whowas bossing others on this page and he took it and got it.Yes, this is awesome and amazing book and helps to see what is good and what is bad when comes to friendship. There is tons books about bullies and how to deal with them but this book is a simple visualguide to situations among school age kids in K to 2 and how to navigate in that when you are that age. It is book for kids not for parents and kids really GET IT.There are good examples to follow for those who need them and bad to reflect on themfor bad behaving kids and for good kids to help to see how and what to say and what to do.What not to love?It is very affordable book, one Starbucks coffee really, no risk to me and I think it was so much wisdom and so much learned from it. Nothing to loose all to gain.Again, DO NOT buy for younger kids no matter how advance readers and smarts they arebecause this is the same problem as with those smart pants ending send to Kindy one year earlierand then being socially inadequate for most situations. Being smart and advanced is one think, fit socially another. therefore do not expose younger kids to those problems, just as you should not send younger kid early to Kindy :)

My 4 year old son's neuropsychologist highly recommended it as a great way to teach him about social norms so that he can build some good friendships instead of turning all the kids off with his boisterous and sometimes overbearing reactions (and affinity for pushing and chasing) Well, both of my kids (my youngest is 1.5) absolutely ADORE this book! They have wanted to read it every single day since it arrived. My son seems to be taking some of the lessons to heart, as he will bring up ways to be good friend or how not to be a friend randomly throughout the day. Our first playdate since getting this book also went swimmingly! There are a couple of more mature themes mentioned in this book- divorce being one of them. Not that I personally think it is an inappropriate topic, but if you have a child that you don't think is ready to discuss something like that, it's something to keep in mind. Though the beauty of reading to small children typically too young for stuff like that is- they can't read! So if you skip over a part, they never even know! (I always skip the part where the mom commits a little B&E and then cradles her sleeping adult son in that-book-that-shall-not-be-named because, creepy. And both kids are none the wiser) So yeah, this book is great, especially if you kiddo needs a little nudge about how to be good friend material. I'm not sure why, but small children tend to take a book's word for it more than if mom or dad tells them themselves... Worth every penny!

Great book, it covers all important sides of being a friend and even bullies and bosses. I wish I had it as a child.

Great, a bit too long for one sitting. Otherwise it gives good examples on what to do and what not to do. This is good for conversation starters and reminders of what options they have in different real life situation.
