Even though I agree with most of the author's observations, he does tend to fall into the habit of many recent writers and resort to vulgarity and profanity to make his points which detracts mightily from his thesis. Stick with the educated and erudite writers like Dawkins, Hitchens and Sagan for the same perspective. While I may not agree with rabid Christians, this level of disrespect is uncalled for.

It would be a lot funnier, if we did not see that the path of humanity has been led so far off course by this stupid religion. Christians are condemning the Muslim ideology, but the Judaeo Christian belief system is every bit as misogynistic and hypocritical. I laughed a lot, but then I fell in a heap crying over the fact that this stupid, disgusting book, they call the word of god, has set humanity on a course of hatred and fear. This book, this bible, is certainly the most damaging thing to influence life on earth. Steve Ebling only points out the absurdity and the contradictions, and the fact that the men who wrote this garbage where total barbarians. It is soul crushing to see that human beings today still find this trash, that being the bible, as some kind of a guide.

This is a very entertaining read for the skeptically inclined. I downloaded this into my Kindle to read while I was on vacation and ended up reading it twice in one week. I've gone back several times to re-read the parts about Adam and Eve and Noah's Ark. I think I keep re-reading it because it is astonishing that THIS is what the fuss is about. The Bible really doesn't make a lot of sense and Mr. Ebling is one of the few to admit it and backs it up by going through it chapter by chapter. It is so refreshing to read the Bible and see it debated from a source that doesn't take it seriously. While this is not a reference book or an authoritative one, it is written in an entertaining style and reads quickly, unlike the heavy-handed tome it's criticizing. I'd recommend it as a stepping stone for anyone who wishes to get deeper into Bible criticism. To give an example of Mr. Ebling's 'tell it like it is' style, this is the opening line of the book. "The Bible is Not the Word of God. It is an ancient library of books, written over a span of 2,000 years, by different authors, in different places, with different theologies, and conceptions of God, that plagiarizes myths, legends, stories that occur in a "world" that does not exist."Write it down and memorize it. It is the truest thing that anyone has ever said about The Bible. Here's to Mr. Ebling continuing and finishing his ambitious and heretical work. I hope to someday own a complete set of The Holy Bible-Best God Damned Version.

I'm not known for writing the most dazzling reviews but I did promise the author that I would write one (and my apologies to him that it's taken me so long.)I gave this book 5 stars because, in the first place, it was laugh-out-loud funny. I'd like to see the author do stand up comedy with this material. In the second place, I love that he has been able to provide such radically antithetical perspective to a traditionally taboo subject; Bible criticism. And it's a shame that this is such a taboo subject because, if it isn't exposed for what it is, the dogma continues unabated. I would hope that this book's message would spread like a fast acting cancer through the body of Judeo-Christian tradition...so BUY IT and SHARE IT!As with all biblical criticism, this book will be highly offensive and certainly shocking to many believers and the apologists are surely amassing their war-machine of disaccreditation and their version of "scholarly" criticism (rather than researching the facts.)It is said that people's beliefs are like addictions that, once established, are almost impossible to eliminate. This book is a good start on rehab. If you examine beliefs, you will find that in most cases, one's religious orientation is essentially that of their parents. But if people had no exposure to ANY religion until they were old enough to logically choose one for themselves, and then they were given the facts of ALL of them, they would not be able to choose one. Why do you think that is? Any religious person who is critical of anyone else's religious beliefs needs to remember that. There should be a book like this to dump a metaphorical bucket of ice water on all religions. What do you think Steve? Whose next?

Enjoyed the read and many observations similar to my impressions when I tried to read the thing. Got through the third book of the Bible before I gave up with the absurdity of it all. Those authors sure were obsessive-compulsives and they gave their gods (yes plural, since the Bible refers to gods from time to time) a horrible mean spirit and someone keen of toying with human lives in willful ways. The author brings out these absurdities well and would be interested in reading more from him. So for those open-minded enough to be open to the craziness of the book of Genesis, enjoy.

This book provides exactly what you'd expect from the title. It breaks down the book of Genesis, piece by piece, and explains in detail every bit that is untrue, contradictory, absolutely impossible, or just plain crazy. On the first page, you're already hit with a load of rubbish and it only gets more ridiculous. (God created light and night and day before he created the sun and the moon? Really, Bible?) I'm looking forward to the explanation for how Adam and Eve populated the earth without inbreeding. It's unfortunate that the people who most need to read this book probably never will and it's only preaching to the choir, but it's a great tool for anyone who enjoys a good, old fashioned religious debate. I hope there's a version of this book available for Leviticus! So much delicious hypocrisy in one little chapter.
